Hands up if your mum did your hair in a French plait every morning before school? Yep, us too. If you remember that fussy, uncomfortable style from your childhood you might be a bit reluctant to try the new French plaits, but trust us – these are fresh, modern and oh-so stylish.
The Fishtail Braid
We love the intricate style of the Fishtail Braid – it looks super complicated, but it’s actually really easy! Watch the tutorial here.
Top tip: when you’ve finished plaiting, loosen the braid and pull out strands to give a messy, undone look.
The Double Plait
This gorgeous style is kept loose for a laidback look – simply separate your hair into two sections and French braid each side from your parting down, securing with a hair tie at the end.
Top tip: use a length of black ribbon at the ends for a cute vintage style.
The Bun Twist
Sweeping your hair up into a bun is an easy way to look instantly polished, and working in some skinny plaits adds detail and drama to a simple look.
Top tip: this style works best on hair that has a bit of grip, so save it for day 2/3 after washing.
