French fashionistas are famed for their effortless style and cool, calm and collected approach to dressing. Their secret? Knowing how to build a capsule wardrobe with classic, versatile items.

Fashion blogger Kristabel Plummer of I Want You To Know shows us how she puts an individual twist on these French classics in her three day Capsule Wardrobe Style Guide.

Day 1

Little Black Dress

For lunch with her sister, Kristabel paired her skater-style Little Black Dress (LBD) with some quirky heels, adding her own personality to this style staple.

“You can’t beat the basics. An LBD is so versatile and a great foundation for any outfit, whether you’re going to a party or just can’t decide what to wear.”

Kristabel’s LBD tip: Be sure to choose a style that flatters your body shape in order to get the most out of your dress.

Day 2

Black jacket

Heading to East London for a catch up with blogger friends, Kristabel slipped her black leather biker jacket over a classic Breton tee and a full midi skirt for a chic daytime look.

“A leather jacket is the perfect investment piece – you’ll get so much wear out of it and they only get better with age.”

Kristabel’s jacket tip: Add a biker jacket to your outfit to keep it casual and perfect your off-duty style.

Ballet pumps

Kristabel completed her East London look with a pair of bold, bright ballet pumps – a staple wardrobe essential.

“I don’t wear ballet pumps often as I always need a heel. But these are the perfect pair!”

As Kristabel so effortlessly shows, shoes are an easy way to inject a pop of colour and personality into your look.

Kristabel’s pump tip: If you’re after something a little different, choose a pair of pumps with added sparkle or cute strap details.

Day 3

Fitted shirt

Tucked in or tied, buttoned up or left loose, the fitted shirt is a French style essential.

“This is the kind of piece that I’d layer or wear with a few buttons undone.”

Kristabel teamed her silky shirt with skinny jeans and a long necklace for laidback luxury whilst exploring Brighton’s Laines.

Top tip: Polish the look with a slick of coral lipstick to steal Kristabel’s style.

Skinny jeans

“The classic skinny jean is one of my wardrobe staples, but I’m always on the hunt for interesting details to make my clothing stand out.”

Staying true to her unique style, Kristabel’s skinny jeans are adorned with pink polka dots. Don’t fancy a print? Opt for a pair of skinny jeans in a bold colour for an alternative play on French chic.

Kristabel finished her Brighton look with her trusty trainers – perfect for a day of exploring.
