Want to refresh your space the New Year? Here are some ideas to get your home looking *so* 2016.

With chilly weather that keeps us indoors and a sparser-than-normal social calendar, January is the perfect month to hibernate at home. So what better time to give your space a mini makeover?

Refreshing your living room, bedroom or bathroom doesn’t have to be a full-scale decorating job, though – we’ve gathered up our favourite interior trends for 2016 that require no more than a new cushion here and a potted plant there. Take a look…

Mixed materials

Marble and copper, granite and slate, wool and leather – mixing up materials is a key trend for 2016 and it’s really easy to achieve. Look for furniture with a metallic finish, like this oak and copper stool or decorative pieces like this cotton and beaded cushion.

Bring the outdoors in

Right now, spring feels like a long way off and the Great Outdoors is looking a bit… grey. Bringing a little greenery inside will brighten even the darkest day – create an indoor garden by planting succulents in this glass and wood terrarium (which fits the mixed materials trend, too!).

Sharp lines, bright colours and block shapes make the geometric trend one to watch in 2016. If you prefer a muted space, keep things tonal with a grey and yellow rug. And if you want to go bright and bold, this cushion cover is the perfect accent piece.

60s inspired

Add a little retro style to your space with some 60s-inspired pieces. This kitsch printed eiderdown looks great paired with mustard yellow, while this vintage mirror will add some 60s charm to your living room.

With its eye-popping prints, rainbow colours and natural textures, the tropical trend has us dreaming of summer… even if it is below freezing outside. Get the look with this retro rattan magazine rack or perk up your sofa with a tropical-print cushion.
