Cocktails are having a style moment. Gone are the garish days of bright pink Cosmopolitans and sugary Long Island Ice Teas – this season is about seriously stylish drinks. And obviously, we’re first in line to try them out!

Think of your cocktail as a vintage LBD or that favourite red lipstick – timeless, classic and always on-trend. Here are 5 of our favourites for spring…

  1. French 75

Of course, we start with a little je nais se quoi from the French. The French 75 is elegant and refined – perfect for sipping and savouring.

  • Add gin, syrup and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a flute glass, then top with Champagne.

  1. Cucumber Gimlet

This classic cocktail is given a spring makeover with refreshing cucumber – when the weather’s finally warm enough, this is one for enjoying outdoors.

  • Muddle cucumber, mint and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and pour in lime juice and gin. Shake and strain into a martini glass.

  1. Kir Royale

As with fashion, sometimes simple is best. As French as a striped Breton but much more fun!

– Add crème de cassis to the bottom of a flute glass, then top with Champagne.

  1. Negroni

Serious cocktail fans will already know and love this one – a proper classic with none of the fuss. Perfect with pasta.

  • Combine gin, Campari and sweet vermouth in a short, iced glass. Stir gently and garnish with an orange twist.

  1. La Recolte

If you really want to impress your guests, this French cocktail is as delicious as it is stylish.

– Shake pear vodka, St-Germain and Champagne over ice and strain into a martini glass. Top off with more champagne and a squeeze of lemon juice, then garnish with a slice of pear.
